One perfect night in Willemstad.
Eight hours, two bridges, three cocktails, one plate of keshi yena. This is the itinerary we'd hand a friend who has exactly one night in Willemstad and wants the real version.
17:30 — Aperitivo on Handelskade
Start on the painted waterfront. Take the photo. Order a glass of cold prosecco or a vermouth on the rocks at one of the open-air bars between the customs house and the floating bridge. Watch the Queen Emma Bridge swing open for a ship; that's your cue the city is still working as a port, not just as a film set.
18:30 — Cross into Otrobanda
Walk over the floating bridge if it's closed, take the free ferry if it's swung open. Spend ten minutes in Otrobanda — the side most people skip. Climb up to the Riffort views and turn around for the only photograph of the painted waterfront that's actually wider than the postcard.
19:00 — Back to Punda for dinner
Walk back across. Eat early. The honest move is Plasa Bieu (the old market) for stoba di cabritu, keshi yena, or fish with funchi and aros moro. The pricier move is a tasting menu in Pietermaai. Either way: you want to be done with dinner by 21:30.
21:30 — Walk Hanchi Punda
Pick up your second drink walking. The alley is at its best when the lights are on but it's not yet busy. Our walking guide is here. Halfway up, you'll hit Kuiperstraat 10 — the door of Bar de Copa 26 if it's summer 2026.
22:00 — Cocktails in a small room
Order something built on Curaçaoan rum, lamunchi, or mezcal. Avoid anything that comes with an umbrella unless you specifically wanted one. Linger. The conversation here is the point.
23:30 — Out for a walk
Step out into the cooler air. Walk back along the Handelskade with the lights on the water. If you have one more drink in you, head east into Pietermaai for a louder room, or back across the bridge for a club. If you're done, this is a perfect end.
01:00 — The bridge or bed
By 01:00 most Punda rooms have closed. Pietermaai still has rhythm. If you stayed close to your hotel, walk slow — the lights on the water are the last thing you'll remember in the morning.
Honest tips
- Eat earlier than feels right. Kitchens close 22:00–22:30 in most rooms.
- Cash for small bars, card for everywhere else. XCG or USD; ask if unsure.
- Wear shoes you can walk in. Punda is cobble.
- Mosquito spray after dark, especially near the water.
- The bridge is unpredictable; plan crossings or use the ferry.
